Mr. Rob Catlin, Principal

August 1, 2017

Mount Sinai Community,

I hope that all of you are enjoying a restful and exciting summer. I am humbled to introduce myself as the principal of Mount Sinai Elementary. Over the past few weeks, I have had the chance to start learning about this wonderful community. Everyone has been so welcoming, and I appreciate all the support and well wishes I've received in the short time I've been here.

Before coming to Mount Sinai, I was an elementary school principal in Manhattan for five years. During this time, we built a small community where teachers and parents worked together to support our students. I already see that in place at Mount Sinai, and I hope to build upon it in the coming years.

At the end of my fifth year as principal, my wife and I were looking to return to Long Island and settle into a permanent home. We grew up in North Babylon and wanted our son, Ben, to be closer to his grandparents and family. This opportunity in Mount Sinai presented itself and, to me, almost felt too good to be true. I am honored to be able to serve this community and look forward to working together in the coming years to meet the needs of our children.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Gentilcore, Ms. Hine, and all of our office staff for helping make this transition as smooth as possible. Mount Sinai is a community that is rich with tradition, and having such wonderful resources to help me understand those traditions has been invaluable.

My first goal for the next few months is to spend the majority of my time in the classrooms getting to know your students. It's important for me to see our school through their eyes. When I'm not in classrooms, my other goal is getting to know all of you. Please feel free to stop by in August or September and introduce yourself. I want to hear the things that you love about Mount Sinai, as well as hearing some areas where you'd like us to improve. I'll use this information to help us develop our vision for this year and beyond at Mount Sinai Elementary School.

Thank you for welcoming me into this wonderful community. Not a day has gone by so far that I haven't felt incredibly lucky for having landed in this role. I look forward to beginning a long partnership with each and every one of you.

Sincerely,

Rob Catlin
